Occupational Therapy
Regain Independence and Confidence
Activities of Daily Living and Independence
A stroke can make everyday activities such as dressing, eating, bathing, grooming, and moving around more difficult. Our occupational therapy helps patients develop the skills and confidence needed to perform daily activities as independently as possible.
Therapy may focus on:
- Dressing and personal grooming
- Eating and drinking
- Bathing and toileting
- Bed and chair transfers
- Household activities
- Functional use of the hands and arms
- Developing safe and effective daily routines
Our goal is to help stroke survivors regain independence in their everyday lives.
Home and Community Reintegration
Returning home and participating in the community are important parts of stroke recovery. Our occupational therapists help patients prepare for everyday activities outside the rehabilitation centre.
Therapy may include support with:
- Returning to household activities
- Moving safely around the home
- Using public and community spaces
- Participating in social activities
- Returning to school or work where appropriate
- Adapting activities to the patient’s abilities
We help patients build the confidence and skills needed to participate more fully in their homes and communities.
Cognitive and Perceptual Rehabilitation
A stroke can sometimes affect memory, attention, problem-solving, visual perception, and the ability to plan or organise activities.
Our cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation helps patients work on these skills through structured and meaningful activities.
Therapy may focus on:
- Memory and attention
- Problem-solving
- Planning and organisation
- Visual and spatial awareness
- Following instructions
- Completing everyday tasks
- Improving cognitive skills needed for independence
Our therapists use activities that are relevant to the patient’s daily life and recovery goals.
